Views on Climate Change: The Case of Households along River Flood Plains of Palo, Leyte, Philippines

Ian Phil M. Canlas

Abstract

The foregoing study attempted to find out the views of high risk households towards climate change. Using a researcher-made interview guide questionnaire, 100 full-time home-based household heads were interviewed. These households were located in the river flood plains of the municipality of Palo in the province of Leyte. Bangon and San Joaquin rivers cross the said municipality as it drains to San Pedro Bay. Recently these rivers were affected by series of flooding that has resulted to various damages to residents along these flood plains. Results show that majority of the respondents possesses diverse conceptions on climate change, its causes, effects, and prevention. This implies that while other countries are already on its battle against climate change, local communities in the Philippines is left with knowledge-insufficient households.
